Sermon 03-25-12 :: Person

New sermon from 3-25-12 posted at reliantchurch.org

Luke 3:14-17

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Humantri Sunday

Service to others is a growing emphasis within our culture. Volunteering is on the rise, and more and more young people desire a venue of service to their community and world. What motives this service? Perhaps a reaction to the self-centeredness of a “ME culture.” Possibly a desire for community in a nation that suffers from the disconnectedness of radical individualism. Maybe it’s a desire for justice in an unjust world, to be part of something greater than oneself, or even to escape the boredom of the American dream. All of these motives are well and good, however, as Christians our service stands in the shadow of the greatest example of service ever – Jesus Christ. Christians cannot help but live in service to others because their Lord Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom. In the past few months, Reliant has been developing a partnership with Humanitri, a service organization motivated by the service of our Savior. We welcome our friends from Humanitri today as they share with us how we can join together in service toward families in Saint Louis.

“But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:43-45

“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and truth.”

– 1 John 3:18
