Sermon 05.27.12 :: Busy > Un-Busy
Countercultural
Christianity:
Busy > Un-Busy
Easter
creates a new way of life. The empty tomb creates a new people with a new set of values, concerns, habits, and hope. Such a life often proves countercultural to the systems in which
we live and work. The habits of
the new life often appear strange to the norms of our society. Today we confront busyness. We modern
Westerners are particularly susceptible to the rushed distraction of a busy
life. What’s wrong with being
busy, and what does it mean to be un-busy? We set our busy schedules aside, and hear from God’s Word.
“The paradox of our time is that
many of us are busy and bored at the same time.”
- Henri Nouwen
“I can’t remember a farmer who was
ever in a hurry. Farmers
characteristically work hard, but there is too much work to do to be in a
hurry.”
- Eugene Peterson
