Why Grand Center?

Easter Sunday will mark the first week at our new worship location at the Grandel Theatre in Grand Center. We believe this move will help us better live out our mission in the city of St. Louis. Over the next few weeks we’ll share a few words to spotlight the Grand Center district and to introduce us to our new neighborhood. This week’s theme? Arts and culture.

12 galleries and museums. 12,000 theatre seats. 1,500 cultural events. 1.3 million visitors each year. Grand Center is a hub for arts and culture in the St. Louis region.

While in the past the church’s relationship with culture has often been viewed as shaky at best, we hope to faithfully engage our local culture both as participants and contributors. Participants, because the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it; and contributors, because we’ve been given gifts that should be used to create works of excellence that bring glory to God. This isn’t just limited to artists and musicians, for as Dorothy Sayers puts it: “Work [all work] is the gracious expression of creative energy in service to others.” As a diverse church of teachers, artists, professionals, engineers, students, etc… we hope to: Participate in culture. Contribute to culture. And most importantly, to faithfully live as those redeemed by Jesus the Christ. In Grand Center. In our workplaces. In our neighborhoods. In all places. At all times.
