Sermon 01-16-11 "Game Plan"

What would it be like to hear a Biblical prophet speak in the 21^st century? What would they say to our church and context? In the New Year, we allow Old Testament prophets to speak. And we listen. They are mouthpieces for God. Thus we believe that in listening to the prophets, we are hearing the divine voice of God. A voice of justice and mercy, of judgment and promise.

We begin this series with a guest preacher, Dr. Andy Bartelt. Dr. Bartelt is the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. As a Hebrew scholar and respected churchman, he sets the prophetic stage today, helping us understand the role of an Old Testament prophet within God’s overall plan. We appreciate Dr. Bartelt’s service to us this morning.
